How To Make A Wallet Out Of Washable Paper A Beginner Sewing Tutorial

As someone that doesn't do a huge amount of sewing, but really enjoys sewing, I always look for easier sewing projects to occupy a night or two.

So, I recently picked up some "Washable Paper" merely because it was on a crazy sale. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but if you're a creative, you'll find a use for something eventually.

Lo and behold, that day has come and I have recently created the "Washable Wallet!"

Wanna make this easy beginner sewing project wallet? Well, I'm here to help you make it and as easy as possible, so let's get started!

What You'll Need

  • washable paper
  • .25 inch bias tape
  • scissors
  • thread
  • ruler
  • sewing machine
  • needles or clips

Let's Begin!

The first thing we are going to do in this how to make a wallet out of washable paper beginner sewing tutorial is cut out your washable paper!

Let's cut the inside panels first. You’ll need...

  • x1 washable paper cut to 8 x 3 1/2 inches
  • x1 washable paper cut to 8 x 2 3/4 inches and
  • x1 washable paper cut to 8 x 2 1/4 inches

Then, you're going to to cut...

  • x1 washable paper cut to 8 x 4 inches for the outside of the wallet

So, that leaves you with x4 pieces of washable paper!

Next, let's cut that bias tape! You're going to need....

  •  x4 bias tape (.25 inches wide) cut to 9 inches (yes, give yourself an inch of play - it just makes it easier)

So now we are at x4 pieces of washable paper and x4 pieces of bias tape. Yes, it's that simple!

Now let's start putting it together. First, you're going to attach your four 9" x .25" bias tapes to each cut washable paper. It should look like this:

Now, we can take the three inside panels and stitch those together down the middle. Easiest way to do this is to take those three inside panels, center them, tap them down, then fold the three pieces in half to create a guide you can follow (this step will create the pockets for the cards!).

Lastly, we have to connect that one washable paper for the outside of the wallet for this how to make a wallet out of washable paper beginner sewing tutorial! I start with the bottom stitch, but feel free to just line up the middle pockets (facing outward) with the wrong side of the outside of the wallet facing inward.

And Voila!

You just made a slim, washable, wallet! I'll come back to this post and share how they hold up and what the wear looks like after use and after wash.
